Pros

For the last few years Frontiers has been a great place to work, wonderful people, lots of drive and direction, resources and support given to achieve admittedly very high targets. Previously managers were given autonomy to achieve targets through testing new strategies. Benefits were very good.

Cons

From 2023 Frontiers was not able to adapt strategies to meet the new challenges of the publishing industry. Leadership continued to pursue the same strategies and tried to tell staff that because there was a new spin on them, they were new strategies (they were not). Leadership seem unwilling to listen to new strategic ideas, and now there is a culture of fear due to job security concerns; people prioritise themselves and their own security, no longer willing to try new things. I hope things can be changed back to how they were in previous years, where staff had the freedom to suggest new ideas and were listened to.

Frontiers Response

Thank you for sharing your experiences - it's great to hear that your time at Frontiers gave you the chance to work in a supportive environment with ambitious targets. We understand your comments about job security of late. It has been hard for everyone to go through a period of redundancies, but this was the responsible course to take for long-term sustainability. In 2024 we will be working harder on listening to our employees, and on showing how their ideas and suggestions have been implemented in our strategies. Please contact feedback.ta@frontiersin.org if you would like to give any further feedback.
