Pros
- It's really easy - You can get a lot of reading done on your average shift - The pay is decent considering it's less physically demanding than working at Walgreens or Wal-Mart for minimum wage (where I live the lowest paying security position offered by G4S is $11.00/hour). - Fits all scheduling needs. The 24-hour need for security means you can often work overnight if you're a night owl it's the perfect job because you barely need to be alert. Just manage to stay awake and you'll be okay.
Cons
- Boredom sets in quickly; how much reading can one really do at a time. - If they lose the account you worked, prepare to wait for a while without pay before you find another suitable position - Don't plan on getting unemployment in the event you get laid off/they lose an account. They always have a bunch of other accounts you could theoretically take but don't want to for one reason or another (location, pay, hours don't fit with your schedule) so if you apply for unemployment, you'll almost always get denied because they'll point to the list of open positions that you didn't accept. - Staff at office is incredibly unfriendly and unknowledgeable. - Supervisors/management basically never communicate with you. I worked an account that G4S lost and didn't find out that I was losing my job until a week prior to it ending, and that was only through a coworker as opposed to any official communication from management. As a result, I was forced to wait 6 (unpaid) weeks before getting another position.
