Pros
You will meet clever and engaging fellow consultants and the salaries are not bad.
Cons
This is a Cargo-cult institution. This company is trying to be an American-style organisation by idly copying the flashy practices of “open-doors” or “feedback-culture”, with only a very superficial understanding of these concepts. Thus, turning them into caricatures. This situation would not be possible if not for unapt and incompetent management. The introduction of constant meetings and feedback sessions managed only to demotivate staff. It is indeed hard to explain how bad things got there. But if you are considering taking a position in this company, also be aware of the quirks of the CEO and Other senior management: The CEO has a big ego and pretends to know everything. He also is threatened by educated women, whom he likes to belittle. In general, his attitude to the PhDs he likes to hire is very dismissive, he likes to call them “professors” and stress how little they know about “business”. Lastly, his favourite task at work is firing people – it is the only occasion when you would see him smile. And generally, the management is a great example of the wrong people at the wrong institution. They have no experience of working with professionals or in consulting business in general. And I have to say it shows. What they like to do the most was to control every little task you were doing. You would have to note and “plan” in months advance – also predict your client behaviour. Thus, the most important task of your day is bureaucracy for bureaucracy’s sake, and not working for your client. Additionally, all this planning comes from people who could not write one email/memo without ambiguity, spelling mistake, grammar error or self-contradiction. Lastly, I must mention the true Armageddon for this company. Amid the beginning of coronavirus lockdown, they fired 7 of their consultants. After this, they increased the pressure, so much that four more people have left the company. This is a toxic place. If you are in dire financial straits, please reconsider and choose literally anything else – flipping hamburgers in a fast-food restaurant, in my opinion, is a better option.
