I was hired at a bad time to train me. My team was busy non-stop for my first month at this company, so I was kind of an afterthought. I think a few members of my department were ambivalent about me from the start. At their worst, some of them were frequently patronizing and condescending toward me. Sometimes they refused to even sit next to me at events! I was given a very mild verbal warning about tardiness (it included the words "it's not a big deal") about a month before I was fired without an improvement plan after working there for about three months. My boss stopped talking to me or really even looking me in the eye about a week after the "warning". When asked why I was fired, I was given a sheepish response about how I had missed too much time, "...and there are some other things." My new boss had told me that "family comes first" on multiple occasions, and the one full day and two half days of work that I missed were spent caring for my sick toddler. He knew this, so his words ring pretty hollow. Other members of my team had taken far more time off in my tenure there. I was probably not a great fit for this position, but I think they could have let me have a more dignified exit.
