Pros

Rank and File want to do a good job. Work environment is above average. 9-80 schedule is good. Training offerings have been helpful in technical areas.

Cons

Non-existent planning. Poor leadership. More interested in protecting self interest rather than developing good solutions. Middle management spends most of its' time developing excuses, rather than solutions. Say they are Agile - they are not. Marginal benefits. Management rules by innuendo and gossip ' I heard this from someone about you,' Interesting approach to employee relations. New Review process not taken seriously by middle management. Sr. Management is out of the loop. Salary increases are based on middle-management's discretion. Favoritism is key. Also if you aren't one of the 'boys' or part of the culture (e.g. a newbie to the organization) there are consequences. Middle management reacts to issues - no objectivity - lack of attention to details derails many initiatives. Decisions are made without any feedback from those that will have to implement the strategy. Individuals placed in leadership roles have little or no experience. Others are rewarded with titles and positions not based on ability. The organization is able to survive because of its' relationship with the DOD/Politics. Not an organization that really has to worry too much about P/L.

Pros

GD-MS seems to win *ALOT* of proposals and contracts. There is always the next big thing at GD-MS.

Cons

Contractors 411: Typically, contracts terminated with no notice. Today will be your last day. Please wrap up your work. It was a very low-rate contract too. Made alot of sacrifices to be on this program. Culture resembled a human wood-chipper ala FARGO. Many senior engineers leaving en-mass. I was asked to take over the role of the engineer who left just prior to my arrival. I called it: I will be next. Good experience once in your life to go thru the human wood-chipper. Toughens you up. However, GD-MS is a great example of how it is that legacy aerospace companies are dying rapidly and startups will be the future in aerospace.
