Pros
Sometimes the projects are challenging and rewarding. Although these are getting fewer. Had some nice stability during the recession.
Cons
Becoming more and more of who you are in good with. Real knowledge is not as respected. You get more respect by overhyping what you might know and dancing around the gaps. Unfortunately happens sometimes when things are critical. Helps if you are somone's "pet". More interested in meeting the letter or requirements than the spirit. And even then a lot of stuff gets out that doesn't meet reqs.
