Pros

There are some good coworkers. While it certainly leaves a lot to be desired (see cons) it was not a horrible place to work. Seems like there are opportunities for warehouse workers to move into sales/corporate - though not a lot of growth after that.

Cons

Very much an old boys club. A lot of leadership seems to be friends or family with questionable qualifications. While normally many long-term employees would be a good sign, in Gensco's case it means many people who are stuck in their old ways. Work from home is not based off of actual job duties but managers preferences, so some people could, some people couldn't. It's perfectly fine for people to talk out loud about non-work related things, but if you use chat messaging too much you get in trouble. At Corporate men aren't allowed to wear non-collared shirts, even on casual Fridays (unless it's a sports team themed shirt). They often take the least generous option possible when it comes to employee benefits. For example, they provide the min legal sick hours required by WA law, only updated once it was brought up that their existing policy didn't conform. Their medical benefits only allow 3 Dr. visits at co-pay before you have to do out of pocket until your deductible is hit. As salaried workers we were told we were not legally entitled to breaks outside of our 30 min lunch break! That going to the bathroom, refilling coffee/water etc was fine, but we could not go take a walk on a nice day, etc. Expect to have very firm set work hours, even as a salaried worker. They will happily allow you to work over 40 hours, but if you need to leave more that 15 min early for an appointment, etc they will require you to use sick/vacay time, you can't just make it up later. Many departments do work for both Gensco and their "sister company" Slakey Brothers.

Pros

Flexible Schedule. That's all there is.

Cons

Undercuts industry standard salaries by 20,000-40,000 dollars. I only accepted this dev position because my unemployment was about to run out. Zero room for growth. I begged my manager to have me team up with the DBA to advance my career and skill sets and that was actively ignored. Zero change control processes. Zero Q/A. Zero Project Management. Zero testing of the dodgy ERP system that Cannot Scale to the level of their business. Huge amounts of technical debt. They are just slapping band-aids on Everything. Huge network issues they refuse to address properly. Huge 3rd party Shadow IT issues that FTEs are forced to deal with. Complete inability to accept criticisms from the professionals they hired. Zero communications between teams. Actively refuses to invest in its data infrastructure. Their benefits have Huge deductibles for families and are very mediocre. Big Brother Is Watching You! They will literally monitor your IM's and Emails to individuals to use against for termination reasons. My manager ensured me that upper management does not do this. This turned out to be false! Do Not Apply!
