After only one month in that hell I was completely physically exhausted and psychologically drained. The employees there are treated in a very dismissive, rude and slavish way. Unbelievably heavy workload, having to break your back for hours, always short-staffed. Lifting and carrying heavy loads for most of your shift, having to deal with huge deliveries that arrive to be processed and stock away as late as 00:00…when the store is supposed to close at 00:00!!! Absolutely zero respect, getting calls from your managers as early as 8:00am and as late as 11:00pm, constantly changing the rota (which is posted on Saturdays for the oncoming week, only two days before the start of it), WhatsApp never stops buzzing as the company is run on there instead on on proper channels like email, Slack or other internal platforms. You will be added to untold groups that will never stop pinging. Complete lack of training and of proper tools provided. And complete lack of organisation or common sense followed. A very toxic corporate environment, where people’s ideas, suggestions or complains where never listened, and openly dismissed or belittled, sometimes in front of everyone, like on those aforementioned WhatsApp groups. Also, a very hazardous workplace, always cluttered and unsafe. Massive waste of food. The company throws away lots of close to expiration products, choosing to put it in the bin rather than giving away to the staff or to food banks. Utterly shameful. Obsession and constant pressure on the KPIs, it’s the only thing they care about. Targets that you will rely on, will always be made accountable for but, on the other hand, have very little control over given the workload you endure and the tools you will be given. I do not know how this company has thrived in Turkey, my guess it is that the labour regulations are not very developed there yet. But I hope someone stops them and makes them accountable here in the UK soon.
