Pros

Stock Options / Profit Sharing/ Nice customers

Cons

Very old school iapproach to business / technology Favoritism / limited advancement opportunities even for top contributors Low pay I worked in two different branches and my experience was night & day. At the first branch I worked in, I was a top performer for over 5 years (even rec’d Cause for Applause recognition) but was never promoted to next grade level of that position. I was always praised by mgmt and customers but never advanced. That left me very frustrated and I witnessed first hand that advancement opportunities are very limited and largely political. Also, it’s my practice to keep my religious and political beliefs to myself at work. I do not discuss them. Due to the fact I kept quiet, I was wrongly accused of being a socialist by not only my manager but some fellow co-workers. They tried to play if off as a joke, but it wasn’t funny and was highly inappropriate. I could have - should have - escalated to corporate and sued. Blatant harassment. I transferred to another branch office and got “screwed” in the process by an inept HR person at district who omitted key details of the transfer/position that could have influenced my decision. The transfer was so mis-handled, that corporate in St Louis had to get involved. I found other employment months after the transfer just so I could survive financially. I am also entitled to a pension, but Graybar corporate HR expects me to chase down the union to try to lay claim to it. - even though my tenure at unionized office was so brief, I wasn’t officially a union member. No thanks - you can keep that $60/mo pension payment. Shame on you, corporate HR for not assisting me with getting the pension I rightfully earned.

Pros

Many opportunities to learn about distribution and management. Pto is three weeks per year plus holidays and over a s Week of sick time. If you work here longer, you can buy enough company shares to receive a sizeable dividend each year. You are allowed to buy about 5% of your salary in company shares per year and then receive usually 20% of that back per year. The profit sharing plan contributes 10% of your salary to your 401k account but you need to be vested to keep it all.

Cons

You will need a second job to live. Sales reps make way more and do half the work but they report to their managers much more. If you are a CSR, sales people feel entitled to treat you however they want and their manager will back them up. You are watched by coworkers and management like a high surveillance prison especially when you're new but they will leave you alone if you're good at your job after a year or so. Graybar brags about how much revenue and profit they make but middle and upper management suck it all up leaving scraps for the workers who made it for them.
