Pros

The stock price continues to grow due to acquisitions and partnerships so people stay because of the stock grants or purchases.

Cons

This is by FAR the worst company I've ever worked for and its not even close. It starts at the top with the maniacal CEO who runs this organization like trump runs the White House. He is ego driven and legitimately believes he is making a difference when in fact he micro-manages every aspect of the organization. He has final say on the redesigning of the website; he writes marketing copy (claiming he understands how to talk to the customers); it is practice that he signs each and every invoice no matter how small and he only does this once a week on signing day. He surrounds himself with "yes" men and women. If you push back, you get pushed out. I've seen it over and over. Now in terms of other management, everyone is controlled and beholden to Steve. They all pretend to care about doing what's right for the employees and for the customers but not true. They don't share the values of the hardworking people throughout the organization. Too many people like myself have left and speak ill about the company because of how they have been treated. In terms of company culture and practices, there is not a lot of SME at this company. Too many missing links and people who "think" they know what they are doing, while the house is on fire all around them. Add to that, there is literally no semblance of a structure, discipline or remotely an Agile environment that many successful organizations employ today. Everything (LITERALLY EVERYTHING) is done last minute or comes about as a result of some person's (typically senior management's poor planning) that becomes an emergency for "multiple" people. And there is ZERO accountability. It appears that a certain persuasion of people are held accountable whereas others literally are terrible at their job and/or horrible people managers yet they continue to have their jobs without any hint of being held accountable. Two of the absolutely worst things about the culture is its terrible communication and collaboration style. Its as if helping other teammates or people from different groups is against the rules. Communication is done via multiple emails with tons of people copied instead of just picking up the phone or simply going to talk to someone. The second worst thing for culture are the company processes, and this goes back to accountability--nothing follows a structure. For example, I felt bad for external vendors who work exceptionally hard to get work done for the company. But let them try to get paid in a timely manner and you'd have better luck in trying to land a person on Mars. Everyone knows this process is terrible and bad business, yet no one does anything about it except defend it. The bottom line is if you are considering going to this company, you deserve everything that you will encounter here--and you WILL encounter terrible, career stunting things. I've seen people literally quit with either a few days or weeks on the job and then "they" were chastised as being the wrong person for the job. No, they saw something they didn't like early on and took action and management and senior management acted like a petulant child who refuses to accept the feedback. It takes a certain kind of person to work for this company and this is NOT to say that everyone who works there is bad. There are a TON of good and decent people working there and choosing to stay for reasons unbeknownst to me. I'm quite confident that many people think its a walk in the park. But there is a heavy silent majority that wishes things were dramatically different. Final piece of advice, RUN.....don't walk.....RUN away from Green Dot. You will regret going there and it won't take long to happen. And if you don't, then maybe you'll end up being part of the eventual solution to changing things or part of the problem.

Pros

Flexible PTO, decent benefits for employees, remote, office equipment stipend

Cons

The AML team at Green Dot is extremely overworked and underpaid. The company was recently acquired by private equity, creating uncertainty and frequent changes in priorities and processes. There are an overwhelming number of different workflows that are difficult to follow and execute consistently. Investigation processes are very fragmented and manual, often relying on various third party tools that frequently do not work resulting in investigators having to rely on manual workarounds. Middle management frequently requests overtime and weekend work with little to no advance notice, while the incentive for the extra hours is a gift card. It is busy at all times without a single moment to breathe and burnout comes very fast. Team morale is noticeably low and many employees are frustrated and feeling stuck.
