Pros
The Coworkers were the ones who made coming to work every day fun and enjoyable. We saw our job, not as individuals, but as team members looking to provide solutions that brought joy to the customers looking to learn and explore the world through walking holidays. We worked hard and were proud of the product we were selling, always looking to find ways to improve travel itineraries or customer experiences in guided tours. The atmosphere of working in a very diverse and multicultural environment was well liked and enjoyed by many. Prior to Covid, we had freedom and flexibility to achieve our tasks as needed without eyes looking over our shoulder wanting to know everything that we were working on. The pressure to sell during a time when travel was not encouraged was immense and not welcomed.
Cons
Owner & Management Issues that created significant obstacles within the company. Management didn't address employee issues with a couple 'bad apples' amongst the team and issues sputtered out of control. Covid brought a change in company control as the CEO became more involved bringing back significant micromanagement, moral, and social responsibility related issues. This included pressuring temporary laid off employees to return their laptop to the office in the midst of a city wide lockdown where travel to/from the office was not permitted. Also, the CEO engaged in personal travel at a time when, for safety and security of employees society, was not allowed. Further, we felt pressured to return to the office after restrictions were lifted when we were not comfortable with the situation for our personal safety. Low pay with limited opportunity to move up - Travel industry will need people, but beware of the work environment you wish to be in for that career opportunity. The company only has values as much as the leader at the top guiding the company does.
