Pros

Great customers! This was the best part.

Cons

THERE'S A REASON WHY THEY ARE CONSTANTLY POSTING DESIGN SALES JOBS! Owner makes profits on paint and uses "design" sector as cheap labor for non commissioned color consults, cashier, merchandising and cleaning. They entice you with commission potential, do not train on the antiquated systems where you're expected to input highly detailed info for measures/specs (if you screw up you lose commission) on the floor while customers are constantly needing you. Additionally they give you 1 computer per 2-4 sales person so you better hope you can get the computer at some point. On top of working a busy showroom you must also cover the cash register because they lose so many of those employees. The only thing you make any significant commission on (window treatments ) - you are not allowed to focus on enough to make the living they say you can. Too bad the 60 or more(just from the 18 months I was there) of misled hired people who on average quit within 3 months, haven't written their disappointed experience to help others not have to go through this wheel-spinning- time wasting job. Design department is a chaotic Mish mash. Guirys is owned by a despotic, unrealistic sporadic son of a family who fought and finally left for him to run at his own whim. If you want to make minimum wage, feel like a hamster in a crowded cage, and be repremanded for not making commision, then this is a great way to make you confirm crazy self defeating behavior.

Pros

- you get to meet and work with some really nice people (sometimes) - increase your knowledge with art supplies/paint supplies and practices - store discount

Cons

Management is like three kids in a trench coat, they can't make up their minds half the time and everyone has a different idea on what policy is correct or not, if you want a pay raise for a new position title they will fight tooth and nail to give you the lowest possible pay they can with that position, good luck getting a proper weekend since they refuse to give people consecutive days off, the store manager has changed shifts without asking or any sort of notice, sent employees to other stores without any prior notice (and didn't ask either!). I wish mercy on your soul if you work in the art department, if you can even get them to let you work in the department in the first place - there's not even 4 people working in the department that's full of thousands of sku's and items! There are days where you will be the only person in the department and will be flooded, the paint department is semi-functional at best, the design department has people coming in and out of the job, they are also understaffed and overwhelmed. You will meet some nice people at the job, though some employees will think they have agency over your job and start acting like a pseudo-manager (even if you're the same position, same pay), & will talk down to you! A majority of the regulars that come in are very unkind, and will get angry with you, though there is a small handful of very kind people, overall I would not recommend this company for anyone.
