Pros
Free gym membership for yourself and a +1 gives you access to great classes that would cost a fortune anywhere else. Free sauna. Luckily, my team was very friendly and had a lot of fun. You'll learn much about fitness if you're into it and can make friends with PTs. Entry-level job. They hire on personality, not skill. (which becomes a problem). Lots of opportunities to move to other clubs they have and to change to different jobs, i.e. reception/SOM.
Cons
No incentive to hit the sales target each month. Depending on which gym you work at, you may have double the target that others would have at a different gym, which can be tricky, especially if your club is harder to sell. Adding to this, if there's a bad week/month across the estate, you will get a basic salary of 27K, and that's it. On top of this, if you work at clubs where the demographic of people coming through the doors is not very serious about joining a gym, you're dealing with a lot of time-wasters. They will dangle the carrot in front of you about earning 40k+, but that's just constant gas-lighting. They want you to do outreach and lead generation, but they do not provide the necessary training for months. You're the only one suffering whilst they get their ducks in a row. You will most likely be working overtime to hit your commission. This does not guarantee you'll hit the target for each month. There's this other big loophole you have to complete to get a sale: If you make a sale that's on a 'discounted rate' i.e a corporate/local business, you then have 2 weeks to provide proof for that. If you've got a target of 90 for the month and 50 of these are discounted, you will have to provide proof ASAP. If you fail to, you will NOT get that sale. If you do not hit, you will get pushed aside. Awful hours. Lots of gossip/back stabbing in the whole company as a whole. As I said, I was lucky enough to work with nice people at my club. But I've heard awful stories at other clubs. The morale, therefore, is constantly down. Most feel underappreciated and leave. Which is a shame because they had very hard-working people, but they failed to value them.
