Pros
I've been working at H2OLabcheck for 6 months at the time of writing this review. I was hired as the UX designer for H2OLabcheck.com and I also have some involvement in graphic design and marketing for the company.
The greatest strength of working here, especially as a recent graduate, is that the managers are great at finding ways to use your strengths and interests in the job.
As I mentioned above, I was hired as a UX designer, but I had the opportunity to use my design abilities for promotional material for the company. For example, I designed the stand we used at the national ploughing, along with flyers, advertisements and business cards, which was a great opportunity that I don't think many companies would give to a new employee.
I have had opportunities to do photography for the company also, which is something that I really enjoy.
As a UX designer, I have always loved seeing and using new technology and software, and was glad to see that the management here are very open to using new developments. We have spoken about and considered using developments such as AI and blockchain in the company. I think that some other companies would be more stuck in their ways, and you would not get the opportunities to work with these kind of things. Everybody here is interested and enthusiastic about the projects.
Because this is a smaller start-up, you get to work directly with the highest management of the company, and you will get to make decisions that will have visible impacts on the project. This, I believe, is extremely valuable. You could have a very full and varied CV after 6 months here.
Cons
The company is located in Bandon, which is a small town in west Cork. If you need to rent, it can be expensive, and there is not much to do in the town, so if you can't or don't like driving, the location is inconvenient. This is obviously not the fault of H2OLabcheck, but it's really the only major con I could think of.
You might get benefits in bigger companies such as a pension, health insurance, company laptop etc
