Pros
HNTB is a good spot for civil engineers and technical professionals but marketers stay away. Work life balance was mostly fine.
Cons
I could write a book about how terrible marketing is here. If you are a marketer or creative do yourself a favor and do not work here. Marketing here is not real marketing, it should be classified as technical editing and dealing with proposal paperwork. They should call it proposal coordination to be most accurate, not marketing. Work life balance was good when you were not in the middle of a big proposal. When you are you can expect to work 10–12 hours a day until it is submitted. Regardless we are laughably undervalued. Pay is extremely average but the hours and work expectations are ridiculous. As someone else mentioned marketing is trained on the job and gets blamed for most things. If you are new you can expect that everyone will be too busy to train you properly. Project managers could be five days late with materials for a proposal and they still blame marketing when things go wrong. Blatant disrespect for our time as well. Unless you book your PTO weeks in advance you should expect to have to cancel it because you got put on a proposal last minute. Your options are to use your PTO, come back working 15 hours a day to catch up and have everyone scrambling, or cancel it altogether. Marketing department is completely toxic. Managers gossiping about employees to each other, micromanage everything and do not stick up for their own when we get thrown under the bus. BLATANT favoritism of certain employees. Managers will also never stand up for you to protect their own reputation. I have seen people insult my colleagues to their faces for being “slow” or “difficult” and that is NORMAL. They don’t do a thing to stop that type of behavior.
