Pros
A reliable source of income. Opportunities to transfer to other facilities. Equitable pay offered initially based on experience and knew the recruiter from prior jobs and my salary request was met without haggling. The facility where I am employed is very flexible with staff needs in terms of hours and/or work days desired, especially for parents or those wanting part-time hours.
Cons
No initial orientation as a new emploee, with more than 12 other clinicians at more than one site saying the same thing. On site Director of Rehab lacks knowledge of basic "people management" skills. Consistent illegal use of aides to treat patients without line of sight supervision and management is aware but ignores the fact. Patients are often kept on caseload too long, with therapists not permitted to discharge patients before the doctor discharges the patient regardless of lack of progress. Inconsistent on-site application of Hallmark clinical policies. Lack of consistent caseloads as individuals or as therapist/assistant teams. Pressure to produce income with unrealistice productivity demands without considering time spent communicating with nursing and other departments that is not billable time for medicare patients. Access to corporate Human Resources and Benefits departments is rarely possible if calling after 2:00 p.m. - can only leave a recorded phone message.
