"Harbor Freight Tools fails to follow their own Retail Pillars" - Manager Harbor Freight Tools Employee Review

Pros

In-Store team work well together. Ok first job. Do not commit more than one year.

Cons

Harbor Freight fails to follow their own mission statement "... our mission is to be the best place to work ..." Harbor Freights "We value people above all else" is a false narrative. High turnover. Unprofessional behavior exhibited by Regional/District Managers, Human Resources, Employee Relations. Threats of retaliation not uncommon when reporting safety issues, missing pay. Reports must be made anonymously due to history of retaliation What I learned most from the company is: DM's leadership's approach and structure negatively influences morale, consistency, and the overall work experience. Management from outside the store is deplorable. Company policies are only enforced and ignored at their leisure. Benefits are ok. No holidays. Do not commit to more than 1yr max. No work/life balance.

Pros

The pay is competitive, my coworkers have been great to work with, and most of the management team has been supportive and professional.

Cons

My main frustration has been with advancement opportunities. I have been with the company for two years and have applied for promotions multiple times at two different store locations. In one case, I even received a verbal offer for a position, but the final decision was later changed by the district manager in favor of another candidate.
