Store Manager - Store Manager Harbor Freight Tools Employee Review

Pros

Vacation accrual, bonuses, benefits, 20% discount.

Cons

Very unprofessional work environment. I had fellow co works, District managers, upper management all swear consistently. I've been doing tgis for 17 years and couldn't stand more than 2 weeks because of this. Another store manager was in her mid 20s and acted like a child and made fun of her assistants constantly but it was supported by the dm. Expect to work 70 hrs during their parking lot sale. A lot of "blacked out weeks" for vacation- around 12 weeks total. If you want to take a step back in your career, hft is for you.

We agree with you, the associate discount is pretty cool, especially when you consider the great prices we have on our product. We have made a lot of changes to the way we operate in the past year for example, new bonus program, closing stores by 8 pm and over 1,000 promotions to full time positions, just to name some of the bigger improvements. We still have a lot of work to do and appreciate you sharing your feedback, it will only help us get better. We are proud of our accomplishments here at Harbor Freight Tools but not so proud that we would gloat in the closing of other retailers and their associates loosing their jobs, we wish other retailers all the best. Thank you for sharing and for your time with Harbor Freight Tools.

Pros

Great benefits, fast paced environment, good teamwork. I liked the hours, you get an education about tools, whether from your coworkers or the customers. And speaking of the customers, they were on the better side for retail. Most are down to earth and easy to converse with.

Cons

Supply chain issues, many parts would never be replenished, despite being featured, advertised, and on display. That would often lead to tensions with customers. Aggressive time constraints on tasks. Sidewalk sales, holidays, and also coincidentally inclement weather days, can be quite busy and therefore stressful. Especially if there's call outs, but if you have a good management team, you'll have good staff that will want to work for them.
