Pros

I was requested to attend an interview for the position of quality control technician with HeliMods at the Caloundra airport . I don’t believe in ageism but it was practiced on that day, with over 30 years in aviation I’ve never felt so old etc I was shown around the facility and soon realised they didn’t know the concept of quality assurance in aviation Many of my legit questions remained unanswered during the sit down interview with the new prod manager and HR rep whom I came to the impression knew nothing about the position description or responsibilities etc

Cons

I did not provide any references for HeliMods to contact as I believe in providing this information at a later stage post interview but they contact one of their friends at the company I currently work for without my consent which caused many difficulties for me and continues to do so ….

Pros

Working at Helimods was a really positive experience for me. Very cliche, but I did feel like part of a “family” while working at Helimods. The engineering team is inspiring, and the Will's leadership is genuinely admirable. He always made time for his staff, regardless of their role or pay grade. I was in admin and was still treated with respect and support. Almost everyone has a great sense of humour, which made going to work each day really enjoyable. The hours can be longer than a standard admin job, but it’s not really an ordinary “admin” role. Looking back, I learnt so much. I got exposure to so many different tasks, saw how a high-level business operates, and gained experience you just wouldn’t get in most admin or reception roles. There’s huge opportunity for growth if you’re someone who really wants it. If you’re after a cruisy job you can switch off from right at 5pm, Helimods probably isn’t it. But if you want to feel valued, challenged in a good way and like you’re contributing to something bigger, it’s a great place to be and you are definitely rewarded for your efforts. The workplace is flexible as long as you’re honest about your goals and lifestyle needs. The facility itself is beautiful, overall it’s a pretty inspiring place to work.

Cons

- Being the only admin person for such a large team was definitely stressful at times. Juggling multiple tasks while also covering the reception door and phones was pretty much impossible to manage all at once. - The HR team was really poor and lacked empathy/compassion during my time there, but I do believe this has since been fixed... great news for future employees.

Pros

- Good exposure to engineering design - Good facilities

Cons

This is not a place you'd want to work if you value a healthy work-life balance. Overworked and underappreciated sums it up. If you're reading this and considering a role at Helimods, do yourself a favour and try contacting any ex-employee. I'd expect most will speak negatively about their experience, unless they feel it might jeopardise their standing in the engineering community. If you're incredibly driven and passionate about the aviation industry, and you're willing to tolerate a lack of appreciation from senior staff, it might be a good opportunity to gain experience and move on after learning what you can. That said, I still wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone I know.
