Pros
I've been with Heuser & Heuser for a long time now and have been promoted a few times. I was a legal assistant for a while and it was a hard job. I struggled a lot at first because the work is never really "done." There are always more tasks and I never felt like I was finishing the work fully at the end of the day. Once I got used to the idea that there was always something to do, I thrived and have learned to have a work life balance. Since I started, I have had a few promotions and have always felt very well supported. Anytime I needed help or didn't understand something, there was a coworker around to answer my question. The partners are approachable as well. There is a lot of room for growth at this firm and I've seen a lot of internal promotions. Work life balance is good- even though there's a heavy workload, the partners encourage employees to spend time with their families and use their PTO and vacation time.
Cons
This is a tough job, and if you're not interested in an intense environment, you probably won't like it here or probably most personal injury firms. The training could use some work, but having been through a few positions, this is a place where you're expected to learn on the job and it is the best way to figure out what you're doing. While a well formatted training manual would be helpful, there's so much that requires critical thinking I'm not sure what else could be done.
