Pros
Friendly environment amongst people with no direct reports. People genuinely are social and get along with one another There is freedom to do what you believe is best, unless the company changes its mind (see below) Thursday happy hour and free lunches a few times a month along with free beverages like soda and coffee Equity is offered to most employees Health insurance is average along with standard discounts on goods and services along with tax free commuter benefits
Cons
It is not the best place for job security. The company is only 5 years old but has had three major rounds of layoffs since its inception. Once in its first year, the second time after the Stayhealthy merger, and about 20+ people have been let go this year. Each time the management team has changed its mind on what they want to do so the reaction is to terminate some of the current talent and hire new talent to meet that new vision. Usually this message is conveyed via mysterious emails saying employees are no longer with the company. Upper management is currently very disconnected from their employees that are individual contributor and they do not listen to their middle management. Glaring missing benefit is a lack of 401k matching, office parties and other in office perks are below that of similar companies. Was the dumpiest tech/startup office with funding in Chicago, now its a smidge below average as higi moved into a new space out of desperation and missed the mark in their real estate search.
