Pros

There are still some caring, hardworking people left.

Cons

Lack of Employee-Centric Policies: No 401K match, subpar insurance, but the most egregious issue is their unfair PTO policy. Astonishingly, you will NOT receive your full PTO payout (if > 2 weeks) unless you live in a state where it's mandated. This policy reflects such a lack of respect for the hard work and dedication for all those who have rightfully earned their PTO. Incompetent Management: Many in upper management lack a fundamental understanding of the departments they oversee. Their apparent decision to terminate loyal and passionate employees with higher salaries while retaining those who offered a cost savings has been detrimental and will surely cost them more in the long run. Toxic Work Culture: My time at HomeLight has exposed me to what I can only describe as the most toxic work culture I have ever endured. Prior to joining, I used to think that company culture was just a set of buzzwords. However, they showed me how harmful a company culture can be when it is rife with hostility, negativity, and utter disregard for employee well-being. Instead of fostering a collaborative work environment, employees were subjected to top-down decision-making with no room for open dialogue or input from those on the front lines.

Pros

One thing I genuinely appreciate about working at HomeLight is that leadership and HR actually want honest feedback. You’re encouraged to speak up, share ideas, challenge things respectfully, and be transparent about what’s working and what’s not. In a lot of companies, people say they value feedback, but here I’ve consistently seen leaders take the time to listen and have real conversations, even when the feedback is tough. I think it’s important to be true to yourself in a work environment, and HomeLight creates a culture where you can do that. You don’t have to pretend everything is perfect or hold back your thoughts to feel heard. Managers are approachable, HR is extremely receptive, and there’s a genuine effort to improve processes, communication, and the employee experience over time. The environment is fast-paced and scrappy, which means there’s a lot of opportunity to learn, grow, and take ownership beyond your title. People who are proactive and collaborative tend to do really well here. I’ve also appreciated how much the company values teamwork and how willing people are to jump in and help each other out across departments. No workplace is perfect, especially in a growing company, but I’ve always felt that HomeLight is willing to evolve, listen, and make changes when feedback is given thoughtfully. That level of openness and transparency is something I truly value.

Cons

Nothing I can think of at this point

Pros

None whatsoever. I regret ever putting in effort to support this business.

Cons

Throughout my time there, I observed what felt like favoritism from management, which created an uneven and discouraging work environment. When I went to HR to describe the situation, I was affected by a RIF a week later, which felt suspicious. I noticed that certain managers went out of their way to give only certain employees instructions as to how to get better KPIs, to ensure they would be promoted instead of eventually laid off. I also experienced situations and comments that came across as insensitive or non-inclusive, particularly around myself being in the LGBT community. Interactions with some members of management and HR in the office and virtually often felt lacking of empathy, which made it difficult to feel supported. This job made me feel unsafe for years.

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We’re sad to hear that your experience did not feel supportive or inclusive. RIFs are always difficult, and while they are never decisions we want to make, sometimes tough business decisions are necessary to help support the long-term health of the company. HomeLight is committed to creating a respectful, fair, and inclusive workplace for all employees, and we take concerns related to favoritism, retaliation, discrimination, and employee wellbeing seriously. While we cannot comment on individual employment matters publicly, RIF decisions are not made in retaliation for raising concerns to HR. We appreciate you taking the time to share your perspective, and we wish you all the best.
