Pros

Lots of good training, support for taking CPA exams, large and interesting clients, pretty diverse employee pool, lots of women in management, lots of opportunity to learn new things and take responsibility for projects. I learned a lot about the industry and how life in public accounting works at this firm, both the good and the bad. I used to appreciate the benefits less than I do now that I work at another firm - they really weren't so bad. Had some fun chats with partners at firm parties.

Cons

Like any public accounting firm, they will take as much advantage of you as you allow them to. I had a couple bad experiences with specific people in management, but with a little distance, I can see that they were just being old school public accounting, and I was taking it too personally. It's never going to be an informal environment. As a lower level person, it's probably better to just check your personality at the door. Again, this is not specific to H&S, it's just how traditional public accounting is. Just like how two of the partners I saw on a daily basis refused to acknowledge my existence for the first year that I worked there, even though I said hello every day. Things worked out with them in the long run, but there is some funky formality that was a little hard to navigate as a newer staff.

Pros

Everyone is very helpful and encouraging. We work from home but there is an option to go into the office if you need to. Many opportunities to grow and learn. Firm gatherings are always fun. The partners know you and are easy to approach or talk to.

Cons

Not many cons, id say at first it was tricky learning everyone’s working style and adapting

Pros

Had some office snacks Not micro managed in a sense that no one is in office Lots of paid holiday

Cons

This place makes you feel like you’re never the person running the ground even when you’re stuck being the only 8-5 person. Workload is not crazy but they never had a systematic way to train their newbies. Each employee has their own way of doing things and you’re thrown off to getting the hang of it yourself. You’re always asked to do the footwork of the partners and executives. They say they don’t micromanage you but secretly has ways to find out your daily activities and attendance without prior heads up. They advertise as lenient and laid back but the job culture will bother you when you realize you’re just a disposable. Upper management will send you do a series of task as if it’s a big deal then will butt in to do it themselves anyways as if you weren’t doing enough. Weird office culture, tax managers and auditors are partner’s pets while your job is to have their ducks in a row. Nice place to have consistent paycheck but otherwise it’s a brainless job for someone to kill time. No opportunity for growth as they already have their good old trusted employees. Recommend to be here temporarily while you look for something better.
