Pros
Innovative company. Always new opportunities. Owner is accessible to all staff, and responsive to suggestions for improvement. Owner is willing to invest in equipment or services needed to make job safer or more efficient in the long run. Products are of good quality, and sustainable growing makes it safer than some other farm environments that use lots of chemicals and pesticides. Attire for office staff is very casual. Jeans and tennis shoes or work boots are typical. Colleagues are great. Most have a positive outlook and enjoy working in a team environment toward shared goals. Many have been with the company for a long time and are a good resource to new team members. Internal promotions are encouraged, provided the candidate is right for the position. Suggestions are weighted by merit. Decisions are made by what makes the most sense to solve a challenge or create opportunities, not by how long the person has been at the company. As needed, job description may be expanded and pay adjusted. Annual reviews provide clear and specific feedback. Confidential and free access to employee assistance center. Provides support for managers and employees dealing with personal and work-related challenges.
Cons
During the busy season, it can be loud and crowded in the open office. At current staffing levels, tight quarters make it commonplace to kick chair feet of colleagues seated near narrow walkways. The company is not huge, so there usually is one manager per department and some managers oversee several departments. This is best fit for those who want to grow in skills and efficiencies and are driven by results, goals and pay. Wouldn't be a good fit for those who measure success by the size of team managed or how prestigious the job title is. Appraisal forms are very long. Only one indoor restroom with plumbing. The rest are port-o-jons.
