Easygoing for better or worse - Senior Research Associate Houston Methodist Employee Review

Pros

Very relaxed work culture. Most people arrive sometime between 9 and 10 and leave between 4 and 5.

Cons

There is lack of structure in the lab. Research departments can only have an operations or lab manager. Since there is no lab manager, our department lacks structure. A research scientist whose strength is more on analysis and project creation is forced to do lab management duties like direct report accountability, budgeting, and pushing output. STEM attracts a lot of international people, but the international recruits end up being the same nationality of the PI. Therefore the workforce is not diverse, because 50-60% of the people are from a very specific part of the world.
