Pros
Howmet offers competitive pay, strong health insurance, and solid retirement benefits. From a compensation and benefits standpoint, the company is attractive and can provide financial stability.
Cons
Performance feedback and employee development are extremely limited. There is little to no structured coaching, meaningful evaluation, or investment in growing leadership or technical capability. Union leadership has been a significant challenge. There have been repeated situations that appear inconsistent with protections outlined under the National Labor Relations Act, including solicitation of testimony and retaliatory behavior. These issues are well known on the floor, yet HR involvement and accountability have been minimal. The union is often permitted to create a hostile work environment toward management without consequence, which undermines collaboration and operational effectiveness. Union contract rules are inconsistently followed or enforced, particularly when it comes to employee accountability and performance expectations.
