Pros
Good casual job to have alongside studying or other commitments. Met some really great people along the way, if you filter out the toxic personalities the place can sometimes attract.
Casual shifts= work/life balance. However this was often taken advantage of with shifts consistently needing covers. Being 'unavailable' more than handful of times, got you in the bad books!
Decent staff discounts with bonuses if you ever made a sales target. Casual pay was good, not so much for full-time.
Cons
Super high turnaround of staff & managers- I was a casual for 5 years and had a total of 7 managers at the one store. The higher management would provide unreasonable sales targets that you really had to bend over backwards to even get close to. This resulted in a competitive nature between team mates and feelings of shame/disappointment if targets were not met.
Outdated sales tactics for this day and age- consumption habits are changing as a result of the climate crisis, and Hype/ Accent group does not address this in the slightest. Hassling customers to buy socks and waterproofing they don't even need isn't going to work forever!
Consistently understaffed!!
