Pros

- Feels like part of a world wide family - See the impact of your work in real time - Possible to grow if you are good at diplomacy and networking

Cons

- Discriminatory pay and benefits for staff on 'expat' contracts vs a vs staff on 'local' contracts - Poor salary scale for staff on local contracts - People from western nations have a clear advantage since many positions are funded by their Red Cross offices - Recruitment and promotions are on manager's whims, not transparent.

Pros

The UNGA is a busy time at the UN, this provides a lot of excellent experience. The team works well and tries its best to ensure it is a beneficial one. Unlike many internships related to the UN, it is paid a stipend, which makes a difference

Cons

The stipend is not quite enough to live on, but it is fair for 3 days a week.

Pros

Friendly and inspiring environment. You really feel at the center of humanitarian work and that you can contribute to concrete impacts for vulnerable people.

Cons

Management does not always coach employees in new roles and too much turnover. Difficulties in balancing work and family life when you're hired on a contract basis.
