Pros
A steep learning curve is the only Pro along with a few connections that you are able to make in the industries you sell to.
Cons
Everything else! - Pay - way below industry standards. At times you get a decent commission but over my last year in the business, they even started to work around the P/L and budgets to ensure staff gets lower commissions - The management - What an absolute joke of a management this was. An MD with aspirations of other huge events but with the scope, strategies, budgets and results of a new event company. The HR is the worst I have ever come across anywhere in the world. How one hires an HR with no prior event experience is beyond me. She dint understand the business firstly, nor was she well versed with English. On top of all this, going above the line and asking personal and uncomfortable questions to other women in the company including their religious beliefs, about their relationships, their habits (including smoking and drinking), why they are dressed in 'such' a way and what not. The politics just within the management was so evident to the entire staff. Never saw any unity which clearly showed in the event delivery, numbers and staff. Almost all the 'good' employees left since the new management had come in. Anyone who was a threat to their person or wasn't a 'yes' man was forced their way out. - The owners - If they cared about the Dubai business more, it wouldn't be in a position where we had to shut the business entirely. - ZERO training - IT infrastructure from the early 2000's - seriously! We used to sell events of the newest and most modern things yet operated on the most outdated infrastructure one could imagine. This also included the events where our event set up and look was awful. Imagine asking someone to pay $3000 to get the event programme on an A4 sheet paper with the projector provided by the hotel and the only event collateral a small sized banner which is purchased for $50. I can go on and on but a few more are: marketing strategies non existent , the event delivery being poor, reputation amongst the worst in the events space, the office 'pantry' a joke, almost no social interactions and activities planned, zero CSR. If you have reached till here, they also dint do birthdays in the office...
