Pros

Depending on your department, you will form bonds with fellow employees...but only because you are both miserable. The experience is a good stepping stone for learning some new skills, but mostly to learn how a company should not operate so you will have a better appreciation when you leave.

Cons

Everything! Long standing employee here who worked at the company for a few years. Been shifted from job title to job title and passed around, which normally is fine but they never give raises and grossly underpay all the staff. There is no formal HR or upper management team, they are ALL related so keep that in mind. Legal documents are not stored to HIPPA and court cases are mishandled and altered (which is illegal and if the clients paying them big bucks knew, would be a legal fiasco.) There has been several cases of SEXUAL MISCONDUCT between employees that was simply ignored. PTO is questionably illegal and the editorial staff has been verbally abused on more than one occasion. They purposefully hire 'fresh' out of college kids so they can extort them. Average pay is 12$ for a job with a skill set of 22$ (which I found out after leaving) and they will threaten to fire you for taking sick leave, holiday, or for not staying the mandatory extra 20 hours a week. Degrees mean nothing here, and if you are thinking about being paid a fair wage for your level of education or experience, you will be sadly disappointed. The company has nosed dived. A few years back it wasn't nearly as bad. No company is perfect and every business has its bumps, but this one has gone straight into the fire. Benefits do not exist. Employee safety or interest are not taken into consideration. Illegal activity in money laundering is in questioned as found out by a former accountant they promptly fired. A well versed HR manager was hired a year ago who was horrified at her findings was ignored until she left, that is a red flag. The list goes on. There is no growth Our editor manager was never given "manager rights" and was instead quickly sidestepped. Sexism is a real issue here if you are a woman, so be warned. I've witness the poor female management be spoken down to on numerous occasions and it is horrifying.
