Pros
- Great place to start your career. IT Internship opportunities within divisions - Learned a lot of different IT infrastructure tools such as servers, networking, help desk, etc. - If you are in Sales or Marketing, you will be treated well
Cons
- IT Reports into Finance. This leads Finance into dictating what IT is allowed to spend and scrutinizing every spend. We had to buy a 50k storage array because we were going to lose a valuable server, and they didn't see the need for it. Sure enough, the server filled up and wouldn't boot anymore and it became an emergency. This also shows a lack of understanding of what is truly needed. - IT is seen as a cost center instead of a value add. The joke is "There is no IT in ITW", boy is that right! - Decentralized nature of business units make it difficult to implement corporate wide initiatives such as Sharepoint, Cylance, etc. - If you are in Finance, HR, IT, any other market besides Sales and Marketing, your days are numbered.
