Pros

I worked as a night shift order selector here for the last 10 months. Overall, it's an honest, fair, decent company to work for. you need to be prepared to work at night, and until all the trucks are loaded, and you need to know that the work is very physical. ( you move about 27,000 pounds a night). most people can handle it, though, and it does get you in great shape. ( one guy lost 30 pounds in 3 weeks :) I definitely got a stronger core from the experience (after getting through a little lower back strain at first ) I was pleasantly surprised by their benefits. They don't all kick in until 90 days, but then you get very affordable health insurance (around 28.00 a week for me, I think it's like 36.00 for families ) for very decent BCBS coverage with very decent deductibles. They also give you life insurance, I.D. theft coverage, and access to an on-call doctor and nurse phone-in service, all paid for by the company. They give you paid holidays, paid time off and a safety bonus. They also have a profit sharing program and pay you for years there...so much at 3 years, 5 years ..so on and so forth. Also they cook you a free meal every week or two.:) I would expect benifits like that if you where like a corporate professional, so I was a little impressed. Also their pay is fair. you get a lot of overtime so even base I made about 500.00 dollars a week after taxes (busy weeks are about 3/4 of the year) and after you get fast and accurate enough to make incentive (it's a case per hour thing, without mistakes) I made around 700.00 after taxes on really busy weeks with some guys making upwards of 900.00 or so. (I never really killed myself, it wasn't worth 100 to 200 more for a week of that to me). so you can make a pretty decent living working here, also they do most of their hiring from within, so it's pretty easy to move up. Be forewarned. they expect you to show up for work! I found management pretty easy to get along with (they're not always looking over your shoulder and leave you alone to do your job) but on this thing be ready. This is not one of those jobs you can call out on every time you feel like it. If your not scheduled for paid time off, they expect you to be there every shift, on time, period. Also be aware you may have to work in the freezer. I personally found this to be brutal. I mean it's -15 degrees and your trying to throw boxes for 12 hours ....like really ? anyway, a lot of the guys prefer it in there, though and don't seem to mind it at all. They are pretty good about moving you to the dry side, (where I worked most of the time, it's room temp) if you let them know the cold is an issue for you. I love the family -ran atmosphere of the place. (one of my favorite parts of working there) when they have meetings the bosses and owner (an 82 year old gentleman who started the company in 1957) talk to just like anybody else and genuinely treat you with respect and appreciation. At the last meeting I went to the founder was saying he thought of us every day and how hard it was to do our job in the freezer etc..because when he started the company he had done our job himself. I just thought it was a nice touch to have the owner of your company treat you with genuine respect and humility. on that note, though, be forewarned, a lot of the guys on the night shift aren't quite as family-friendly as the main day people. I was a little surprised to find them cussing like sailors etc...that being said they weren't mean spirited and most of them are genuine, nice guys, just a little rough around the edges and very loose with foul language. One more good thing. if you get hurt while working there, they take really good care of you. I pulled a lower back muscle, and they immediately paid for a doctor visit, medication, and physical therapy. the physical therapy part surprised and really helped me, as it got me back in shape in a week and helped me avoid further injury. they also let me do "lite duty" while I was hurt too, so I still got paid. Also I found the lady's in H.R. to be unusually helpful and very pleasant. they went out of their way to make you feel cared for and appreciated and I was not used to this from H.R. departments in the past and was very unexpectedly pleased with their H.R. The management on night shift is competent, and pretty laid back, like I said as long as you show up and try, they're happy, and all three of them are very decent, nice guys. no power trips etc...If you do choose to work here, I would encourage you to stick with it a couple months or so before making your mind up. A lot of guys are overwhelmed and quit right away, but if you stick with it just a little while, it becomes common place, and actually fairly easy to do. my greatest concerns coming in where the cold and injuries to the back. besides the incident I described above I don't have any back issue, and probably even have a stronger core from the beginning, and like I said on the cold, if you don't get used to it, don't be afraid to let the management know and they're usually good about moving you if they can. PROS *Stable, well-run Family owned company. *Good Compensation level for this area. *Great benefits for skill level *opportunity to move up (in 2 years or so)

Cons

*Working nights....little family time. *Can be a physical stretch. (27,000 pounds a night starts to add up). *Sometimes the freezer is too cold for common sense.
