While the industry is going through a tough phase in general, it still has a revered respect.
However, the India story is different altogether. When connections take over competence, it is bound to ripple through layers downstream. The current site lead is with the company for 4 years, and the team he leads is 0. Not 100, not 10, it’s ZERO.
His contribution to Index is landing an office space in one of the most crowded places of Bengaluru and taking the numbers from 40 to 30 in last 6 months successfully. Kudos.
Great engineers and leaders were disrespected or were not given right opportunities but instead of listening to them or fighting for getting the right opportunities, he sides with others. Ofcourse how will he know, he doesn’t have any teams.
Someone tell him that good engineers follow great leaders. If your competence is finding how many hours one swiped in office, no one will listen to you even if spit gold from your mouth.
You can’t say you are paying too much to employees and are afraid we won’t have opportunities outside, in public. You can’t share performance feedback when you are neither manager nor skip level. You cannot turn deaf ears whenever it is a conflict between members from India and Canada, or always believe we are at fault. Well you can actually, thats why people are leaving.
