Pros
-Mom and pop software shop -- you'll have all the access to the owners and senior management you could ever want
-Fast-paced environment, tons of work to do -- you'll never get bored.
-Benefits include occasional 15-minute professional massages, company lunches, a "family room" in case you unexpectedly get stuck with your kids and break time for doctor's appointments, trips to the car mechanic, etc. without having to use PTO.
Cons
-Dated technologies may hinder career growth (notably use of Classic ASP and VB6)
-It's been a "startup" company since the late 1990s without any determinable growth or progress in the past five years.
-Mercurial leadership
-The employee handbook requires a minimum of one month notice to "cash out" PTO and the company can, and has, elected for immediate separation after receiving resignation notices to avoid paying salary and benefits to departing employees. It's in poor faith and severely detrimental to the courtesy of giving notice but it is perfectly legal in New York State. Consider your exit strategy carefully.
