Pros
summer-hrs, some good people to work with, work from home, decent salary
Cons
My experience was heavily impacted by my direct manager, a Senior UX Design Manager. The quality of design leadership and mentorship fell far below what I expected from someone in a senior design management role. Feedback from my manager often felt generic, repetitive, and disconnected from the actual design problems being discussed. It rarely reflected the level of practical design expertise I expected from senior leadership. Design critiques frequently resulted in additional rework without improving the customer experience or product quality. Asking clarifying questions or seeking the reasoning behind decisions was often met with visible frustration, making open discussion difficult. My manager frequently shifted accountability to the team when projects encountered challenges rather than taking ownership of leadership decisions or direction. Team morale suffered due to inconsistent leadership engagement and a lack of psychological safety. Mandatory team activities were prioritized despite limited interest from the team, while more pressing design and process issues remained unresolved. The gap between expectations placed on the design team and the level of support provided by design leadership created an increasingly frustrating work environment.
