Pros

Good benefits and the few people who actually work to improve the company are top tier. Unfortunately, these people aren't in leadership positions that allow them to drive any real changes.

Cons

- Below average pay for technical skills - Incompetent and toxic leadership - The small business "family" facade exists only as a means of taking advantage of employees - No work/life balance, often expected to put in additional hours without compensation to fulfill company-related items (outside of the scope of the contract work) - No growth or even lateral movement - While the CEO behaves in a professional manner, the co-founder and CTO both regularly act like middle school tough guys. They routinely insult and spread personal business of employees to illicit laughs in the company office. Anyone who doesn't fall in line with this behavior and participate as an enabler is ostracized and usually becomes the next target of the behavior.

IntelliGenesis LLC Response

As a business, we have a zero tolerance for bullying. Our leadership team adheres to our policies and creates a strong corporate culture. At IntelliGenesis, our salaries are very competitive, our benefits are strong, and we care about our employees’ careers. I learned many years ago that you can’t make everyone happy, and I don’t try to. We have a very high retention rate because we take care of our employees. We are a small business and relatively flat organization. Small businesses are not the right fit for everyone and that’s ok. People are terminated from time to time and will leave unfavorable feedback, behind the protection on anonymity. -Angie Lienert, President & CEO

Pros

Supportive leadership and mentorship: Managers and teammates take time to guide and answer questions. Valuable SkillBridge opportunity: The internship is structured to provide hands on training relevant to civilian careers. Collaborative team environment: You’re treated like part of the team, not just “an intern.” Exposure to real world projects: Work ties directly to the intelligence and cybersecurity mission. Smooth military to civilian transition: Company understands the challenges of transitioning service members. Professional growth opportunities: Encouraged to take initiative and build technical and professional skills. Positive work culture: Respectful, mission-driven, and inclusive environment.

Cons

I only had 4 months to learn and contribute, but I was able to learn so much in those short 4 months.

Pros

The people went out of their way to create a great environment. This internship is an excellent opportunity to create your own learning experience and focus on what is most important to you. There was plenty of time to study for certifications such as CompTIA, focus on learning or advancing in python, and work on projects with others in the company. They invited SkillBridge interns to join the company on fun competitions in machine learning to get an introduction to AI and gave us access to RF devices to practice hands on skills. I would definitely recommend this company to others exiting the military.

Cons

There was less structure during my iteration of the program, making it important to have discipline and goals, but it gave a large portion of time to focus on self-study.
