Pros

Dogs are allowed in the office (though that can create a lot of noise). Cute town with good lunch spots within walking distance. Free parking in the lot behind the office.

Cons

I worked at InterArch two years prior to writing this, so some of their practices could have changed by now. However, in my time working there, I saw many red flags that I was able to recognize even as a new professional trying to make rent. On a broad level, there were things about day to day office life that became grating after a while. All projects that I worked on were for two near-identical clients, resulting in a lot of repetitive work done entirely in AutoCAD. They didn’t do any work in Revit. The office itself was uncomfortably quiet most of the time, which may not be a big deal to some and likely wouldn’t have been to me if the company didn’t create a stigma around listening to music while working. My coworkers were like most places, some friendly and some not, but the silence made any interaction feel intimidating. I wasn’t around long enough to take part in their profit sharing plan, but you can google “InterArch class action lawsuit” to see how that went for some other employees. On a personal experience level, there are two events that stick out to me. The first was when I was emailed one day asking why I was getting up from my desk so often. At the time I had been experiencing health issues that caused me to use the restroom more often than I otherwise would have (though never to a degree that delayed my tasks being completed), and upon replaying with this information the subject was quickly dropped. This made me very wary of the fact that one or more people in the office were keeping tabs on my movements and relaying that information to the higher-ups. The second personal event was when I was laid off. It happened at the very end of my first three months on the job and I suspected it may have been related to the fact that our relationship with one of the two bank clients was up in the air and work was drying up fast, leaving everyone worried for their jobs. The reason they gave, however, was that the quality of my work was not up to snuff. That is a fair reason to let someone go and I’m willing to accept that it may have been the case with me, but there wasn’t the slightest indication beforehand that anything I was doing was wrong. No one had any major critiques on the work I did or had any issue signing and sealing it for construction, there were no three strikes, I was simply out without warning. I’d be wary of any company that didn’t give guidance to new employees or address performance issues before they became fireable offenses. Finally, on a more specific note, my main issue with the company was the boss/owner, or rather the culture surrounding her as my interactions with her were mostly limited to saying goodnight to her at the end of every workday, which I and every other employee were specifically told to do in the company rules given to me in my orientation packet. Another review referenced The Devil Wears Prada, and I think that’s apt. The Emperor’s New Clothes is as well. Whether it was every employee being given cards to handwrite her a message on her birthday (and then singing Happy Birthday to her) or being peer pressured into kissing her on the cheek at the end of the party at her mansion/vineyard where all of the employees picked the grapes off of her vines for her, nearly every interaction was meant to boost her ego and was deeply uncomfortable.

Pros

Big name clients. Beautiful office. Easy commute from most areas of central NJ, south NJ, and PA. Really great people (junior). You will work on cool projects and see your work implemented on a grand scale. The company will never go out of business because the owners are ridiculously rich.

Cons

Before I started here, another employee told me "This place is like The Devil Wears Prada." I laughed it off at the time, but it turns out the statement was pretty accurate. The owners are some of the richest people in the state, and as such have what could be considered strange (but more often are seen as insane) operational practices. If you do not dress, speak, or even bank a certain way, you are going to be put on the naughty list fast. There is an extremely aggressive air in the office, leading to short tempers, over-competitiveness, and backstabbing. This is probably due to the amount of firings, quittings, affairs, and other drama that goes on. If you are not a favorite, your daily work will be hellish at best and nonexistent at worst. During my time at IA, I witnessed administrative and HR practices that are hugely immoral, and possibly illegal. It is no secret that the agency and its management have been involved in extremely shady business... let Google do the talking. Oh yeah you can expect to be forced to attend themed parties or lose your job.
