Pros
OVERVIEW Being employed at Interblock has been quite the interesting experience, but overall one of the best places I have ever worked for. For me, after about five years, I can say I have been blessed with the opportunity to grow with the company. Off the heels of COVID, Interblock's US branch seemed like a startup company with a few people wearing many hats, but an inflection point was reached once ownership of the company changed. Suddenly departments had more than enough people to carry out tasks and employees could specialize. All throughout this growth, the CEO, John, in my opinion, has been generous and fair and is one of the best CEOs I have ever worked for. This may be rare in this day and age, but my work ethic is always to add value before being considered valuable, and at every step exude excellence—this may be perhaps why I have had a positive experience at Interblock. ||| CAREER OPPORTUNITIES In terms of vertical mobility, I believe you truly get out what you put in. If someone wanted to try to move up, I have seen management and John promote people from within rather than hiring externally. Personally, I have been fortunate to be able to experience this upward mobility myself because of the time, effort, and care I afforded to my projects. Good behavior and work ethic gets rewarded at Interblock. Not unlike most other companies, if you only put in the bare minimum, recognition will never come; become outstanding and you will stand out. ||| COMPENSATION & BENEFITS The compensation for the work I was doing scaled with the amount of responsibilities I began to take on. Benefits are gracious (health, dental, vision) and the 401k match is a nice touch, PTO earned is quite generous and scales with your tenure I believe. ||| CULTURE AND VALUES With a growing company, it's hard to get a grasp on the cultures of the organization, especially when it has taken some time for the US branch to find its groove with HR, but just last year with the new company ownership just settling in, we have begun to make our way towards locking in our values of Integrity, Innovation, Collaboration, and Adaptability. Since we are global company, we have to regularly be cognizant of other countries' local cultures that affect work culture as well. ||| DIVERSITY & INCLUSION As previously stated, since we have branches all over the world, we are always appreciative and open to the various cultures in which we are established. That said, in the US branch we have many different ethnicities working together for one goal: offering top-notch luxury ETGs to the casino gaming world. ||| SENIOR MANAGEMENT When it comes to the management and executive team, over the course of the nearly four years being employed here, there has been quite a bit of shake ups just like any other company. This however, seems to be the case at many casino gaming companies, large and small, that I have heard of; which makes sense why some of the industry is in an interesting state at the moment with online gaming shifting the way land-based casinos operate. As I will mention later, the management and executive teams, I believe, are very fair—even beyond any personnel changes that might occur in management, there is a base level of understanding to be reasonably accommodated for when it comes to getting projects done in a timely manner. I will be clear, however, like in most companies, there are direct consequences from the executive team for consistent lackluster performance. Be excellent and expect excellent response. ||| WORK/LIFE BALANCE Although I was one of the few that would stay later than most and continued to work at times at home, I would say the work/life balance here at Interblock is one of the best experiences I've had at a workplace—albeit I'm sure that it is contingent on the job responsibilities you sign on for, and even then I believe the company is fair. I choose to work above and beyond normal work hours to accommodate business needs, but never did it negatively affect my personal life. I see many reviews here that tell only one side of the story; I believe it goes with any organization, that there are some circumstances that the business cannot (and should not) accommodate for. However, from my perspective, management and the executive team has been very fair in asking for certain deadlines, but shifting and adjusting in the case employees are unable to meet them due to personal circumstances. ||| CAREER OPPORTUNITIES In terms of vertical mobility, I believe you truly get out what you put in. Cons
There definitely are some communication challenges that could be addressed very easily (see advice for management section), which would help with meeting deadlines but also keep people accountable. ||| No official programs or methods to recognize employees; perhaps only in some departments this exists, but no company-wide system for recognition of exemplary work. ||| There could be more work community events to allow employees to build morale, foster a sense of pride in the company, and cultivate a sense of belonging. This is beginning to change with more events happening than in the past, but there could be more regularly scheduled get-togethers outside of work hours perhaps. ||| Development of ownership and responsibilities for certain aspects of the business could be better to allow employees who do the groundwork to be more easily able to get things done without going all the way up the management chain.
