Pros
I interned with Interlock Media during the summer before heading to college for nearly six weeks. They were kind enough to help me pay for my stay with a stipend for food and transportation.
Interlock is nestled in the heart of Cambridge with Jonathan at the helm of the nonprofit. He is tough as nails and brings out the best in the employees who work hard and show they care. If Jonathan seems rough on the outside, it's because he expects a lot out of you. But if you go all in, he is loyal and will do anything to help you succeed.
At Interlock, you will be asked to complete various tasks that you might not have expected walking into your internship. If you show the team dedication and enthusiasm, you'll be entrusted with more responsibility. In the end, I learned a lot about myself and the media world. It was a transformative time in my professional life and prepared me for future career opportunities later on. I don't think I would be the young professional I am today without this internship experience.
Cons
This internship is not for the weak of heart. Jonathan will push you to your limits and ask the very most of you. Although I got home at the end of most days ready to pass out, I was always glad to have known that I was putting in my all and working hard toward a goal each day. Be prepared to work longer hours and commit to the company. You'll learn a lot about media production and meet some incredible people along the way.
