Pros
The CEO and EVP/CMO are progressive and inspiring, despite their unawareness of the instability of their PD&D/Sourcing Teams.
Cons
I hope all potential candidates research this page before considering a career with JCPenney. There are reasons why this company continues to regress in the industry, and it is unfortunately due to the rigid and toxic work culture and unprofessional leadership. When interviewing, you will be told that there are opportunities for growth and advancement, that there is a focus on work-life balance and flexibility for hybrid and remote work, and you will be impressed by their alleged commitment to a focus on inclusion and diversity. These are all false statements, and unethical behavior is not only overlooked, but it is also rewarded by promoting leaders and Sr. Directors and Directors who thrive in this cut-throat and fear-based environment. You will be hired for your experience & knowledge; however, you will not be encouraged to share ideas on best practices. In fact, you will be targeted by narcissistic leaders who do not welcome feedback. Human Resources cannot be trusted to anonymously and quickly address concerns involving reporting unfair practices. Instead, they will conduct meaningless surveys led by the same leadership and directors that are the root of these issues. Certain leaders continue to be protected, despite the record number of turn-around and employee concerns. Favoritism is rampant, and retaliation is widespread in the form of micromanagement, passive-aggressive and targeted mistreatment, and exclusion if you refrain from participating in gossip and slander. The pay will be generous, and higher than any potential offers from comparable roles/companies. However, your responsibilities and/or title will quickly change without your consent shortly after you’ve joined and signed the contract. No amount of money is worth enduring this negative and destructive environment.
