Pros

Beautiful showrooms and great suppliers.

Cons

The most toxic work place. The owner works and runs the business personally. Its all well and good when you start, such a great vibe. If you do something that is not what the owner wants (even though they will never tell you) the tide will change and you will be spoken to in the most passive aggressive way, you'll be constantly stressed and on edge. There is always staff drama, gossiping and favouritism. Very high turn over of staff. There is no structure or systems in place and once you are not in favour you will be asked to leave. There is no way around it, no development plans just a termination. One you leave you will be bad mouthed by management to all new team members and even clients. Stories will be made up and you will be dragged through the mud.

Pros

Beautiful showrooms and furniture sourced from Europe Furniture is amazing quality and well-designed Strong client database with many well-known interior designers familiar with the brand Melbourne showroom is especially impressive Suitable for people who enjoy being on the showroom floor Base salary around $70K–$80K (no commission, occasionally a small annual bonus)

Cons

inside the business there is no real management or structure — the owner runs everything herself, and there are no clear policies or support systems in place. The work environment feels toxic, with constant drama, tension, and a stressed-out team. The owner frequently complains about finances and is aware of issues happening behind her back but chooses not to act. There is also a culture of gossip and dishonesty in Sydney. Some employees play games, pretending to be supportive while spreading misinformation behind people’s backs. This creates a hostile, especially one guy in Sydney, he creates untrustworthy atmosphere where you always feel the need to watch your back. Overall, while the furniture is stunning and the showrooms look impressive, the workplace culture is extremely negative and unsustainable. No room to grow.

Pros

I have worked for James Said for 7 years, both in the office space, showroom and currently work from home. My employer is extremely supportive and encourages me to explore and expand my skillset within my various roles. She is interested and respectful when discussing my ideas and challenges. She actively guides and supports me when I am unsure how to move forward. My job is interesting and at times challenging and I want to continue to learn and develop. My employer sees my strengths and allows and encourages growth. Although I am working from home, I feel included and part of our dynamic team. I have formed great relationships with all members and feel connected to the teams in the showrooms, office and warehouse. They are such a wonderful bunch of people! After 7 years of employment, I am still excited to be working at James Said and I feel valued and secure within the company.
