Can't say I'm thrilled - Anonymous employee Jimmy John's Employee Review

Jimmy John's is a company that is cares 100% about making a profit and saving a buck and couldn't care less about their employees. I know it's a corporation, but they take it to the extreme. I've worked for other minimum wage food service jobs before and this is by far the worst. They start off by giving employees a huge number of hours so it becomes their only job and source of income, and then they cut your hours in half unexpectedly. The only reason that flexibility is there is because they like to over staff. For what should be an easy job, the company likes to get completely out of control about things. They act like this is complete rock science. It's not. It's something we have all been doing since about five. Even if you are a sandwich maker, there is a huge pressure to become a delivery driver. It's not worth it. Considering the ticket that you take is normally valued under ten dollars, even if you get a standard tip it's only a dollar or two. You will beat your car to death in the process while only picking up pocket change on average. There are no benefits for working. You get a two dollar discount and to get anything free you have to work a seven or eight hour shift. Their time off policy is the worst I've ever seen. You have to get someone to cover your shift, even if you let management know weeks and months in advance if you need time off. They force employees to come into work when they are sick. So if you're a fan of Jimmy John's sandwiches, just know that they employee who made it could have the flu. For a place that says they want "rock stars" they are ridiculously strict and heavy handed with their management. JJ's also seems to attract the most stuck up and outrageously entitled customers on the planet. Prepare to be yelled at; a lot.
