Pros

Please understand, I say all of this BOTH as a survivor of childhood cancer AND someone that Len Austrevich emotionally and mentally abused as an employee. There were no pros to this job. Thank god this company shut down. What little good they did for children with cancer was heavily outweighed by the misery that Len brought to his many employees of the years. The only positive was that many of my fellow co-workers were incredible people that also wanted to do good. I'm glad I got to meet them. Im sorry that they endured this abusive workplace.

Cons

This job was soul sucking. Its been years since I worked there and am leaving this review so people understand the real legacy of this place. It was one of the worst times in my life. There were some wonderful people working alongside me and I saw the light leave their eyes after a few months of scraping dog poop and cat vomit and cleaning the owners disgusting apartments - after being hired for a VIDEO PRODUCTION role. Read any of the negative reviews - they tell the real story. The positive reviews were written by management themselves or employees that were coerced / asked to write a positive review. FYI - Years ago we reported them to the Bureau of Labor - only to be told that J4M "didn't qualify as a real company" and therefore were out of the Bureaus jurisdiction. Just let that sink in for a minute.

Pros

The best aspect of this company is the vision. They are on track to provide a unique and important resource for the pediatric cancer community. Being able to use my creative skills to help their mission become reality is very rewarding. The website and community center are very impressive. The work I did was meaningful. The jobs I had on location where I actually got to interact with and serve the kids we are helping were some of the most powerful days of my life. I have an erratic schedule with my personal obligations and some unforeseen life events. J4M has been completely understanding, allowing me to work remote and transition from an employee to an independent contractor.

Cons

The structure is not the norm. This isn't a punch in, punch out, get assignments, meet deadlines, Monday morning meeting with your project manager type of place. While this isn't a "con", it's something to be noted for those looking for a more typical job. You have to do odd things like text when you arrive at work even if your boss is right in front of you. It's a quirk, but either you accept it and do your job that is rooted in such good and hope and helping others...or it's not for you. It feels like this company has gotten burned by employees in the past, so it does feel like you have to "prove" yourself, and be tested before finally being trusted...but the core of the group is tight , with a true family feel.
