Pros

Work Life Balance. Weekly lunches in the office.

Cons

KCM Group is lacking on many levels: MANAGEMENT: This is a huge failure on so many levels. The owner/principal likes to not be involved, then periodically show up and gets involved in a project, and lets you know that you’re “doing everything wrong”, but not at one point did they provide any guidance on what their expectations were/are. After they let you know that you’re “doing everything wrong” they’ll vanish for a few weeks on vacation and repeat the same process again. The day-to-day management has no idea how to project manage and is not familiar with construction. They have no ability to forecast workloads and don’t understand or provide the tools needed for staff to be effective at their job. They are wanting to know your whereabouts during the entire workday and want you to call and provide updates during the day as you travel between projects. When it comes to communication, they rather send a cryptic email to the entire company rather than having a quick conversation. Their biggest concern is what type of toppings should be placed on the pizza that they’re ordering for lunch. In summary, management is dysfunctional and paranoid. STAFF MORAL AND SOPHISTICATION: There is a reason why there is low employee retention. The senior staff members are not motivated, are missable with their positions, and like to blame others whenever they can get the chance. Other staff lacks experience in project and construction management. There is ZERO UPWORD MOBILITY in the organization. The career path is stagnant. LACKLUSTER PROJECTS: While they’ll tell you during your interview about all the amazing projects that they’ve done and have numerous photos of them in their office, you’ll later find out that these projects were all 10+ years ago and today the type of work they do is “fixer” and “clean-up” projects AND THEY ARE NOT LOCAL (expect to travel 70+ miles one-way). The projects are not something that you can put on your resume and talk about with future employees after KCM Group, because they simply don’t translate to the Construction Management world.

Thank you for your review. KCM Group strives to provide an environment where our employees can feel safe and comfortable speaking to management about their concerns. That has never changed. Encouraging an open and transparent dialogue with our staff, helps us do better. It is unfortunate that you did not take the opportunity to express your concerns, as you know they would have been addressed accordingly. Best of luck on your future endeavors.
