Pros
Incredible legacy. There is a transformative potential in public media. There are opportunities for great storytelling and reporting, in spite of obstacles. Compensation was competitive for the industry. Great local events.
Cons
It should be a cool job, but employees frequently wind up burned out and demoralized due in large part to terrible management. I can imagine a path forward for KQED but poor systems and weak leadership stymie any actual progress. Their digital strategy and programming only seem to get worse and I fear this company is in a downward spiral. Management does not listen to or invest in internal talent and subject experts, it’s all politics.
