Pros

•Some of my favorite memories happened while working at KSL. I still smile about interactions I had with the kids and I will remember some of the kids for the rest of my life. •The teaching staff is comprised of a great group of people who love kids and work extremely hard all day long in difficult circumstances. •In it's purest form, KSL is a dream job for people who want to work with kids or in education without working in the traditional school setting. •The centers are designed beautifully.

Cons

•The most important thing to know when starting at KSL is that it is a for-profit retail business. Money is what drives every decision being made. You can talk all you want about changes that will help teachers do their jobs better but at the end of the day, unless it saves money or makes money, it's unlikely to be implemented. •A vast majority of their veteran teaching staff has left in the past year. I was never provided an exit interview, there is no company-wide announcement when staff leaves, and unless you work directly with that person, it's unlikely that you will hear that someone quit. •The company structure is disorganized. After being with the company for several years, it was still unclear of whom to go to for what. Everyone on the leadership team tries to get involved in everything which makes it difficult to get a straight answer to any question. You don't have a direct manager, which may be intentional, but it made day-to-day center-wide decisions way more complicated than they needed to be. •You are expected to carefully monitor Slack, emails, Box, ZenPlanner, etc but you are never provided with a personal company device or asked if you want to be compensated for the use of your own devices. •This has been mentioned before, but the lack of an HR department is problematic. •Staffing numbers has always been an issue that has never been figured out. There are some days when centers are stretched so thin and there's not enough staff to safely run a center but some days there is an overload of people around with nothing to do. •It's common that you will be asked to take on extra responsibilities without extra pay. They eliminate certain positions and then expect teaching staff to take on that role in addition to their actual job.
