Good resume experience, bad life experience - Assistant Account Executive Kirvin Doak Comm. Employee Review

Pros

Entry level employees will get a great experience to put on their resume as Kirvin Doak has top tier clients. KDC is kind of "PR boot camp," and will prepare early PR pros with great media relationships, PR/event planning experience, etc. Aside from office politics, the company does try to have positive office culture with parties, potlucks, etc.

Cons

There is little-to-no work-life balance with all of the hours that are "required" for the job (also no over-time). Salary is barely liveable. They say "you get great perks," unfortunately perks don't pay rent. Way too much office drama and politics - it makes it difficult to actually concentrate on your career. There is clear favoritism throughout the company, along with manipulation/lying coming from senior level employees, such as covering certain information or incidences. Absolutely no focus on HR/no HR department - makes it nearly impossible when something (i.e. harassment) needs to be reported.

Pros

Fantastic PR agency for experiences and learning! Starting DAY ONE- you get to work with high-profile clients on high-profile events, PR planning experience for a variety of legendary hospitality and entertainment brands, and the priceless opportunity to create amazing media and brand relationships.

Cons

Vegas is a competitive city with 24/7 tourism and a huge celebrity attraction, which means life in PR is pretty much around the clock. Long hours are required for big openings, events, and red carpets (which happens weekly in Vegas). The work is fun but can be consuming. Some believe the demanding late hours are not worth the low entry level compensation. That said, if you're looking for PR experience and come in with a student's mindset - you'll gain great life skills!
