Pros
There are a lot of smart, talented, and hard-working people in the business tax groups and the corporate tax group. These people are a pleasure to work with.
Cons
Most of these smart, talented, and hard-working people report (directly or indirectly) to a group of middle managers. These middle managers are good at using buzz words from the Market Based Management philosophy, but they are not people who have knowledge or integrity. They are the type of people who call obvious failures "successes," because successful initiatives boost their bonus numbers. They tell people that they have "integrity to a fault" for trying to correct past problems, because identifying compliance gaps can cast doubt on past bonuses received. They tell people that their job depends on making these managers "look good," and when a problem can't be easily dismissed, these managers blame the business compliance teams, outside advisors, or others who can't push back. You would be foolish to work with these people.
