Once a “unicorn”, now a donkey - Team Leader Komodo Health Employee Review

Pros

Used to work with some brilliant minds, great culture and mission driven. Komodo was special.

Cons

New executive leadership placed has no life science experience, and an extremely outdated SaaS model approach. It’s old, it’s tired and you’re working with people who have enough experience to see through it. To add insult to injury, they continue to hire people at all levels without the appropriate experience and lack the humility to be curious about what they don’t know, and often show unethical behavior in operations. They have stripped diversity in leadership, and pushed top talent out the door, with more are leaving in droves. Komodo does not pay its people justly for performance, has continued to strip benefits, and has multiple lay offs.

Pros

Mission-driven work that actually matters - reducing the global burden of disease shows up in the day-to-day Genuinely great people: smart, curious, collaborative colleagues who are good at what they do Strong AI-forward environment: the company is moving fast on AI and actively encourages using modern tools and rethinking workflows Real flexibility: generous PTO policy and latitude over working hours, built on outcomes rather than clock-watching Forward-looking direction: it feels like a company investing in where things are heading, not standing still Supportive culture that lets you do your best work

Cons

Fast pace means priorities can shift, so comfort with change helps Growth and evolving processes mean some things are still being built out

Pros

Through 2024, it was a nice place to work that seemed to at least pretend to care about the wellbeing of the employees.

Cons

Around late spring of 2025, the messaging from above was pretty clear: prove your worth in this new age of AI or get off the ship. In a matter of a month or so, the entire character of the company went from supportive to dominating and threatening. All work was focused on a single project of shockingly low quality and poor design. Toxic, high ranking engineers openly denigrated the years-long, successful work of well respected engineering teams and verbally abused lower ranking engineers. I was insulted, had my ability and qualifications questioned. When I said something that they didn't like, they threatened to portray me negatively to leadership which interpreted as having my job threatened. Leadership reconfigured everyone into cross-functional teams to work just on this new product. Then the rounds of layoffs and reorgs started and hasn't stopped. Everyone I talked to was miserable and people were leaving as soon as they got an offer from literally anywhere else.
