Pros

LabGenius is a fantastic company to work for filled with amazing scientists who are kind, supportive and amazing at what they do. I’m genuinely proud to be part of the company and excited for the future as we are seeing some truly incredible results in such a short space of time. The team has produced best-in-class molecules from our ML driven platform which is fed with high quality data from robotic automation. This is no easy feat, we all come from different technical backgrounds and through trust, communication and teamwork this has been achievable - a credit to everyone in the team who has and continue to make this possible. We have a highly experienced senior management team who are approachable, helpful and importantly, know what they’re doing and what direction to go in from their years of experience in drug discovery. Like others have said, our CEO gives everything to the company and strives to improve the company every day. There is a very generous benefits package including regular company events, health insurance, budget & time for training and mental health support to name just a few.

Cons

Tight deadlines. This is to be expected with any biotech startup and is part of the reason for success. I’ve found team members are always happy to lend a hand to meet any tight deadlines to help split the load and reduce any stress.

Pros

the people that work here now are all amazing now as a few bad eggs are gone that created a toxic and bullying environment as you can tell by the co-ordinated recent negative reviews - they continue to show no respect for the 50+ people that work here by leaving reviews containing lies that demean all the good hard work we have put in The platform is great as supported by evidence in our recent poster at the PEGs conference which you can see on the website and everyone really is working hard to build out our pipeline and work on collaborations. Socials are great too and benefits.

Cons

Like any biotech start-up there are tight deadlines, things can change quickly meaning you have to be able to pivot. Nothing unique to this company. The career progression wasn't very clear but the team are working on it and it's definitely improved. I spoke with my manager about career development recently and I feel it's going in the right direction.

Pros

Amazing co-workers who go above and beyond to help each other out and who work well to get things done between multiple teams. We had that 'in the trenches together' mentality that you often find in a tough lab based / start-up environment A good stepping stone out of academia.

Cons

For a very small company there is a very clear hierarchy and power structures which often take precedent over scientific expertise. Very top heavy organisation with more managers than 'do-ers' which means that the workload and pressure from above can be overwhelming and limits any professional development time. It also results in far too many meetings than are actually of any use. Having very few experienced project managers means that project management has been chaotic at times, requirements not communicated well, timelines/expectations changing weekly/daily. Lack of vision and awareness of the competitive landscape. Seniority and promotions based on favouritism/loyalty not merit. Most senior positions are filled by white men, if you don't fit that mould it's hard to envision a long term future here.

LabGenius Response

Thank you for your review of LabGenius, and I’m sorry to hear that your time spent with the company wasn’t as positive as it should have been. With regards to our structure, we’re lucky to have had some brilliant leaders join the company in recent months, who each have vast amounts of experience in their respective areas of expertise — with these senior hires comes absolute clarity over the future facing structure of the business. This has however led to a need to hire for particular levels. We have high standards for candidates at LabGenius, and I have full confidence that the right expertise is being brought into the business to ensure any shortfall in capacity is met. This is something that we continue to monitor closely and respond to as the company evolves. Thank you for the feedback on the clarity of our company mission. At LabGenius, we’re focused on accelerating the discovery of next-generation therapeutic antibodies. We’re doing this by pioneering the development of a smart, robotic platform that’s capable of designing, conducting, and learning from its own experiments. That said, breaking new ground in a field that’s at the forefront of innovation means that the landscape we work in is evolving at speed. In response, I am committed to making the bold decisions needed to refine the path we are taking to deliver on our mission. The cultivation of a diverse and inclusive environment is imperative at LabGenius, and it’s something that we take incredibly seriously. We are proud to say that just over half of our employees are female, with 48% of managerial positions or above being held by women. Whilst this is true, we also recognise that there is always room for improvement, including within the Leadership Team. For example, to catalyse new and meaningful initiatives, we are working in close partnership with a leading independent consultancy, Diversity Scotland — through this work, we are dedicated to creating a more diverse workforce, where everyone’s voice is heard in equal measure. I’m sorry to hear that you feel some recent promotions weren’t based on merit alone. Our robust progression framework sets clear expectations across levels, and is central to employee development. That said, working in such distinct areas of both science and technology means that there is always more we can do to ensure our process is standardised across the organisation, and it’s something we continue to prioritise as we scale. If you would like to discuss any topics in more detail, I would really like to hear from you, so please don’t hesitate to contact me directly. Thank you for the time you spent at the company, and I wish you well in all future endeavours. James, CEO & Founder
